Portsmouth set to land Anelka in loan deal

Portsmouth are closing in on a loan deal for Fenerbahce striker Nicolas Anelka.

The Guardian says Anelka is wanted by Pompey boss Harry Redknapp to partner Peruvian Jefferson Farfan who is expected to arrive at Fratton Park from PSV Eindhoven in an £8m deal.

Anelka will land on the South Coast with plenty of baggage after leaving Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal under a cloud.

But Redknapp, who has managed fiery characters like Paolo Di Canio and John Hartson in the past, is not put off by Anelka's temperament.

And the Pompey boss, armed with co-owner Alexandre Gaydamak's Russian millions, hopes to ensure Portsmouth avoid another relegation scrap by assembling plenty of firepower.

He already has Benjamin Mwaruwari, Lomano LuaLua and Svetoslav Todorov at his disposal.

Farfan, who scored 21 goals for PSV last season, should join new loan signing Glen Johnson at the club this week.
