Newcastle monitor crunch Inter talks for Martins

Inter Milan striker Obafemi Martins is locked in talks with club directors this weekend over his future at the San Siro.

A top target for Newcastle and Portsmouth, Martins appears to be the odd man out at Inter after Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined from Juventus in a £17m deal and having already asked to leave the club once this week.
The club's president, Massimo Moratti, is reluctant to sanction the Nigerian's sale but, having signed both Ibrahimovic and Hernan Crespo this summer, he knows a player foreseeing a future on the substitutes' bench is determined to leave.
"It's not going to be easy to get a player of Martins' quality to Newcastle but I do like him and I don't mind saying that," said United boss Glenn Roeder.
"He's a player I admire and we're looking at the situation at Inter Milan very closely."
