Newcastle boss Roeder turns to Klose

Newcastle United boss Glenn Roeder is stepping up his bid for Werder Bremen striker Miroslav Klose.
The Mirror says the Magpies have kept tabs on Klose's situation and he could represent better value than the £9million Liverpool paid for Dirk Kuyt. Klose impressed retired striker Alan Shearer at the World Cup, and no
bidding war has materialised for the 28-year-old despite his five-goal heroics won him the Golden Boot.

Bids for Nicolas Anelka and St Petersburg's Russian star Alexander Kerzhakov have been ruled out, but Roeder is also "still watching" Obafemi Martins' situation at Inter Milan.
Roeder said: "There's no panic whatsoever going into the
game against Wigan, but that doesn't mean that we've shut up shop.
"I'm very confident that there will be at least three new players here by the time the window closes. A striker is our priority and after another meeting with the chairman yesterday I know he is fully supporting our efforts.
"If we do land our targets we will be in a very healthy position indeed.
"You will see players who come here in these next two weeks who are proven in the Premiership. We prepared a year early for Alan (Shearer) retiring by signing Michael Owen.
"Give the club
credit - they thought Michael would be fit for the next four or five years. But he's had horrendous luck, and so have we. There's no pressure to bring anybody in. Last year we won plenty of games with this squad.
"But we want to add to it because we want to do better than we did last year. Our goal this year is to finish higher than seventh and to improve on the 58 points we achieved last season.
"That's my goal and that's the players' goal. More players of quality would definitely help us to do that."
Shearer added: "We need to get a forward or two to bolster the start of the season, but the current team will do OK."
