Liverpool's Benitez helps Valencia rumble Simao fee
Valencia president Juan Soler is ready to pull out of a deal for Benfica winger Simao Sabrosa over the behaviour of agent, Jorge Mendes.
AS says Mendes attempted to up Simao's asking price from £10 million to £12 million by insisting that Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez had entered the bidding over the weekend.
But it's emerged that Benitez was quick to get on the phone to his former club and assure them he wasn't interested in Simao.
Soler is today in talks with his board about whether to try again for Simao or pursue alternatives. Juventus midfielder Mauro Camoranesi and Feyenoord's Romeo Castelen are both in Valencia's sights should Soler decide to pull the plug on negotiations with Benfica.
