Van Nistelrooy plotting Man Utd exit for year

Ruud van Nistelrooy's expected departure from Manchester United this week has been over a year in the making, it has been revealed.

The Mirror says the Dutchman, who is set to sign for Real Madrid, asked for a transfer just three days before United took on Arsenal in last year's FA Cup Final.
Van Nistelrooy stunned United manager Sir Alex Ferguson with his demand, which was immediately rejected. But his increasingly poor attitude, coupled with his desire to leave, angered Fergie to the extent he accepted he had to get rid of him.
The United boss is determined to get the best possible price for the club's all-time leading goalscorer.
"Andriy Shevchenko went from AC Milan to Chelsea for £30m," said Fergie. "He's a similar age to Ruud and their goalscoring record in Europe is almost identical.
"So you can guarantee that we're not going to be giving Ruud away."
