Curbishley favourite to succeed O'Leary at Villa

Alan Curbishley is favourite to succeed David O'Leary as Aston Villa manager before the season kickoff.

The Mirror says chairman Doug Ellis believes he has justification to sack O'Leary, who he blames for instigating a player revolt that began on Friday and reached boiling point yesterday. Senior players demanded a face-to-face confrontation with Ellis yesterday, and plan to voice their fury at his continuing cost-cutting measures.
Curbishley and Martin O'Neill were last night installed as the favourites to take over if O'Leary is axed.
The former Charlton boss, who played for Villa, is a more likely option due to his connections with the club and willingness to work with a limited budget.
