Atletico Madrid fines Reyes £2 million

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo was left perplexed over Real Madrid's capture of Arsenal striker Jose Reyes last night.

Atletico were close to sealing a deal for the Spain international before Real came in for him again to strike a swap involving Julio Baptista with Arsenal.
Cerezo said: "Once Real Madrid said that the player did not interest them, we had meetings with the agents of the player to see if the operation was possible. We made an offer to Arsenal, but now it seems that he is going to Real Madrid.
"He was never an essential player for Atletico, just someone interesting.
"It does not seem normal to me what Real Madrid did. Fifteen days ago they said the player did not interest them and now he does? I believe that we have acted properly during this time.
"Nothing's changed with Reyes not joining us. We still have a great squad."
Marca says Atletico will pursue the £2 million penalty payment from Reyes which was agreed last week between the parties should he choose not to move to the Vicente Calderon.
