Man Utd to double Rooney wages to £100,000-a-week

Manchester United intend to offer Wayne Rooney a seven-year contract worth £100,000-a-season to keep him at Old Trafford for life.

The England striker's current deal lasts until 2010 but United want to extend that by another three years.
It means Rooney, 20, will be offered a new seven-year deal with his wages going up from ?50,000 a week to ?100,000.
There will also be an option in that to extend it by another three years.
Boss Alex Ferguson said: "We want Wayne Rooney to stay for a lifetime.
"He's a fantastic footballer. His energy and enthusiasm show he is going to be a top, top player. We have always tried to ensure contract situations are on the plus side for us."
