France coach Raymond Domenech has confirmed Patrick Vieira will be France's new captain, following the retirement of Zinedine Zidane.
Vieira, who recently transferred from Juventus to Internazionale, was viewed by Domenech as the 'logical' choice to succeed the ex-Real Madrid star.
Former Arsenal midfielder Vieira, who has captained Les Bleus on eight occasions in 94 France appearances, will now don the armband again for the international friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina on August 16.
"The captain will be Patrick Vieira and it is logical," Domenech told the French television channel TF1.
Other than his choice of captain, Domenech was giving little else away when quizzed on the make-up of his first squad since Les Bleus bowed out in the World Cup final.
"I will not pick a team based on their form at the moment but with the intention of preparing for the [Euro 2008] qualifying matches against Georgia and Italy," he said.
The long-running battle between Gregory Coupet and Fabien Barthez to be named first choice goalkeeper is a source of great debate in France but Domenech would not reveal his preference.
"The list will come on Wednesday," Domenech added. "Be a little patient."
