Fergie backing for McClaren

Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that Steve McClaren will get the best out of England's players.
The Three Lions failed to live up to expectations during a disappointing World Cup campaign, as they crashed out at the quarter final stage.
McClaren is now charged with the task of leading England to Euro 2008 glory following Sven Goran Eriksson's departure, and Manchester United boss Ferguson has backed his former assistant to make a good fist of the job.
"Steve will do well. He has a fantastic group of players and he will get the best out of them," hailed Ferguson.
Ferguson is also optimistic that McClaren's relative lack of managerial experience will not prove to be a barrier, as he is such a fast learner.
"The progress he made with us was phenomenal. From the day he arrived he was always asking questions," he reflected.
"Steve was hungry and he wanted to learn.
"You see younger men like Frank Rijkaard and Marco van Basten making a success of it (international management) and I am sure Steve will do equally as well."
McClaren has been eager to stress the importance of forging stronger bonds with club bosses, and visited United this week to see some of his England players in training.
"Steve made it very clear one of the first priorities was to strengthen the relationships with all the clubs, especially those with the core England players," said FA director of communications Adrian Bevington.
"He will spend time going round all the training grounds over the coming weeks and months.
"He started at Manchester United's Carrington where he met the England players and Sir Alex Ferguson."
