Liverpool board backs Benitez's Simao bid

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is being backed by the board in his bid for Benfica winger Simao Sabrosa.
The Mirror says Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira has told Simao he can go and he has set his heart on leaving Portugal.
Valencia are also keen on the talented wide man who had an ill-fated spell at Barcelona.
Simao said: "It's a good sign that the president will open the door for me if a serious offer comes in. I would like to play in a different league and whether that will be returning to Spain or going to England, I do not know."
Benitez will be alerted by Simao's comments, particularly because his attempts to sign Brazilian Daniel Alves have stalled because of Sevilla's ?10m asking price.
