Manchester United have made a £5 million offer to Atletico Madrid to take first option on striker Fernando Torres.
The Daily Star says United have tabled the bid with a view to signing the Spain international in June for his £26 million buyout clause.
Atletico directors are mulling over the offer, with United the preferred destination for Torres should he decide to leave the Vicente Calderon.
Torres committed himself to a new Atletico contract over the summer in exchange for having his buyout clause reduced from £60 million to £26 million.
