Ferdinand insist Rooney will never sign for Magpies
Rio Ferdinand insists Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney was never going to sign for Newcastle.
Rooney went to Old Trafford in a £30million deal from Everton in August 2004 after Newcastle had opened the bidding for the England striker.
But Ferdinand, speaking in his autobiography, Rio - My Story, insists that Newcastle had no chance once the Manchester outfit entered the fray.
Ferdinand says: "Newcastle were in for Wazza as well, but I didn't think for a moment he would go there, even though they put a big bid in.
"I don't mean to be disrespectful to Newcastle, but I couldn't see him moving there if Man United were interested. The whispers were that he would come to United if Everton let him go."
