Newcastle boss Roeder: I like Martins
Newcastle United boss Glenn Roeder admits he's interested in Inter Milan's Nigerian sensation Obafemi Martins.
Toon chief Roeder was impressed as he watched the speedy Nigerian score twice against Porto at the Amsterdam Tournament last weekend.
Roeder, in Latvia to face Ventspils in the UEFA Cup second qualifying round tomorrow, said: "Martins is very quick and strong.
"I don't like to talk about other clubs' players too much but he's one that has been mentioned.
"I wouldn't see any reason why we won't continue to look at him."
Martins, rated at around £10million, insists he would rather stay at the San Siro and fight for his place than join the Toon.
He said: "I could be ready to move in the future but not now."
However Martins' agent Patrick Bastianelli reckons Crespo's signing could push his player out.
Bastianelli said: "Oba has received requests from Tottenham, Newcastle, Portsmouth and Valencia.
"With Crespo's arrival and eventually another striker, it's clear we have to look for an alternative accommodation."
