Liverpool go for cut-price Trezeguet

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez admits he fancies several of Juventus' stars after the club's demotion on Friday to Serie B.

The Sunday Times says Benitez has indicated he will move for several Juventus players this week, notably the France striker David Trezeguet. Benitez, who has only just signed Craig Bellamy for £6m from Blackburn, sees Trezeguet as a cheap alternative to the likes of Jermain Defoe (Tottenham) and Dirk Kuyt (Feyenoord).
Benitez said: "We need to wait for two or three days but there are a lot of good players in these teams and they interest us. They will be a better price now than they would have been three months ago."
Trezeguet, 28, would cost upwards of ?10m, but Juve are keen to strike loan deals that would enable them to hold on to their top stars while they attempt to battle back to Serie A. Such a deal could suit Benitez, who has limited funds.
