Beckham captaincy decision could cost FA £20M

Real Madrid star David Beckham's decision to quit the England captaincy could cost the FA a mega £20 million.

The Sun says the FA achieved a turnover last year of £200m thanks to sponsors and TV rights, making England the world's richest footballing nation.
However, Beckham's phenomenal global appeal, especially in Asia and America, enabled the FA to attract commercial partners at a premium.
And his absence as skipper will almost certainly reduce their ability to bring in investment on the same scale in the future.
Brand expert Gavan Stewart said: "If Beckham had given up the captaincy in his mid-20s, then he could have lost up to £50m in future earnings.
"But he's at the end of his career now and the biggest losers will be the FA.
"They could have £15m to £20m lopped off their brand value after this.
"Beckham has transcended the England team and you only have to look to the Far East and Asia to see how popular he is.
"He gives the FA the worldwide audience they need to bring in big merchandising and sponsorship deals."
