Newcastle United boss Glenn Roeder admits he's desperate for the January market to come around as he seeks to boost his attack.
Having found the net just seven times in 12 outings this season, the Magpies can ill-afford to lose Shola Ameobi but the time is fast approaching for former England Under-21 star to have hip surgery which will end his contribution to the current campaign.
"I could force him to carry on playing but it would be unfair to put someone's career in jeopardy, so we have to take the hit now," said Roeder.
"I like the phrase 'limp along' but clearly the transfer window cannot come quickly enough for us now."
