Newcastle want FA to pay for Owen

Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd will pursue the FA for compensation over Michael Owen's World Cup injury.

Half of Owen's wages are being paid by the FA's insurers, and the other half by a policy Newcastle took out themselves, because the FA's "dark ages" World Cup cover was not sufficient.
Shepherd said: "If they borrow something and give it back damaged they have got to
pay for the damage caused. It's as simple as that. I can't see how anybody in the world cannot see that argument.
"Yet we haven't had one penny off the FA in compensation.
"It's with our legal people here and in Europe. It will take as long as it takes. We won't give up."
Owen is out until mid- April at the earliest after having two operations to repair his right knee, which was damaged in the first minute of England's clash with Sweden in June.
Following the Owen case, the FA have doubled their
insurance cover to pay players' wages up to £100,000 a week if they get injured on England duty.
Shepherd added: "That proved in my eyes they had under-insured in the first place."
