Real Madrid are moving for PSV Eindhoven defender Alex.
The Brazil international is Real coach Fabio Capello's top target for the winter market after expressing concern to sports director Pedja Mijatovic over his squad's lack of defensive cover.
A deal for Alex, however, will be complicated with the defender not carrying a European passport and his registration still tied to Chelsea.
Capello is adamant he needs a new central defensive signing in January after being forced to turn to Ivan Helguera as Fabio Cannavaro's partner in recent weeks. The Italian sees Sergio Ramos as a fullback and wants Cannavaro to be partnered by Alex at the heart of his defence for the second-half of the season.
