Messi paying for ignoring advise
Lionel Messi has assured the football world that Barcelona will not falter despite the recent spate of injuries to the La Liga and European Champions.
Messi will be out of action for three months after fracturing his fifth metatarsal last Sunday, joining Samuel Eto'o, Xavi and Saviola on the sidelines.
Talking to the press after leaving hospital however the Argentine youngster was upbeat, insisting that the Catalan side will push on despite the loss of such key players.
"The team is very strong and has already proved that," said Messi. "They're keen to make sure they continue doing things well.
"I am over the worst of it now after the operation.
"I'm not in pain any more and hope the time passes quickly. The most important thing is to remain calm and to be patient."
The 19 year old may be optimistic about his injury, but former Argentina team doctor Donato Villani recently told Spanish press that he had advised the forward to have surgery on the weak metatarsal months ago.
"When the World Cup finished, I told the Barcelona staff that it would be better if they operate on Messi before he gets fractured," Villani said to Spanish radio network Cadena Ser.
