Ferguson attack Scolari
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has launched a fierce attack on Luiz Felipe Scolari over the Portugal coach's claims that Carlos Queiroz was after his job.
Scolari's outburst came after Queiroz had attended Portugal's Euro 2008 qualifying win over Kazakhstan on Wednesday, when United winger Cristiano Ronaldo scored one of his country's three goals.
He said Queiroz had told him United were offering contrasting public and private positions over Ronaldo's ankle injury before going on to wonder whether Ferguson's assistant was 'hanging around' the Portugal squad in the hope he would one day get the head coach's role.
Queiroz denies speaking to Scolari at all during his brief visit, leaving Ferguson to mount a staunch defence of his right-hand man.
"The comment Scolari made about Carlos hanging about the Portugal games looking for a job was a crazy thing to say," said Ferguson.
"I am sure Scolari goes to watch Porto and Benfica at some point. Is he after the guy's job?
"I had three of my coaches and all my scouts out at games in Europe this week. I am sure they are all still working for me.
"Carlos is a fantastic professional and he never spoke to Scolari at all.
"It confuses me that Scolari inferred Carlos spoke to him and marked his card that Ronaldo was all right but we were giving a different story to the press to keep Manchester United's fans happy."
