Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has told his board to close Ashley Cole's sale to Chelsea as soon as possible.
The Times says Wenger is concerned that Cole's continued presence at the club is affecting his team's morale and yesterday he instructed David Dein, the club's vice-chairman, to get the deal done as soon as possible.
Having had two bids rejected, Chelsea insist that their latest offer of £17 million has been made on a "take it or leave it" basis as a result of their frustration at Arsenal's stance, although this seemingly intransigent position could change.
