David James is poised to secure a move away from Manchester City after the club confirmed a fee had been agreed with Portsmouth for the England keeper.
The 36-year-old keeper's fiance lives in the south of England and he has informed City chief Stuart Pearce that he would like to head south.
Pompey tabled a bid for the keeper and City have confirmed they have agreed a fee with their Premiership rivals.
"Manchester City has this evening confirmed an offer has been accepted from Portsmouth for goalkeeper David James," read a statement on City's website.
"The 36-year-old stopper, who is in the final year of his contract, is currently on his way to Fratton Park."
With James eager to make the move, Pompey chief Harry Redknapp will be confident of pushing through a deal before the start of the Premiership season.
City have already set their sights on a replacement, with Rennes star Andreas Isaksson being tipped to make the move to Eastlands.
