Abramovich launches £30M Chelsea raid for Torres

Chelsea are launching a £30 million bid for Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres.

The Mirror says Roman Abramovich wants the World Cup star to come to Stamford Bridge and lead his charge for Premiership and Champions League glory and has put his agents on the case.
Abramovich has been on Torres's trail for years and would not tolerate seeing him sign for Manchester United or European competitors Inter and AC Milan.
The Italians have been squabbling over the young Spaniard and between them have pushed the price up to £28m. United had budgeted to match that figure but could now be priced out of a deal. Chelsea are currently haggling with Atletico and their offer stands at cash plus Shaun Wright-Phillips and the choice of other squad players.
Didier Drogba - unhappy with the arrival of Shevchenko - could be thrown into the package as a ready-made replacement for Torres.
