Bolton Wanderers must break their wage structure to land Villarreal wing-back Juan Pablo Sorin.
Villarreal have accepted a £2.5 million bid from Bolton for the Argentina World Cup captain, but the deal could stall over Sorin's £40,000-a-week personal demands.
Sorin, 30, has two years left on his Villarreal deal, but is being made available after they snapped up Valencia winger Jose Enrique earlier this month.
