Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is stepping up his pursuit of Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon.
The Mirror says Wenger is ready to make a formal offer of around £12 million for Buffon, with Juve facing demotion from Serie A over the Calciopoli scandal.
While Wenger's faith in Jens Lehmann was repaid during last season's Champions League run, the German is 37 in November and does not have a long-term future while Buffon, who cost Juve £30 million, the world record fee for a goalkeeper, when he arrived from Parma in 2001, is 28.
