Rooney break dutch heart

Video Safari

England have been held been held in Holland 1-1 thanks to a late, late effort from Rafael van der Vaart.

After missing an early chance, Wayne Rooney quickly made amends when he cleverly flicked Joe Cole's incisive right-wing cross into the corner of Henk Timmer's goal after 37 minutes.
It was the 21-year-old's first England goal since the 3-2 friendly victory over Argentina last November.
England played out the half with renewed vigour and might have had a second when Andrew Johnson's cross was deflected goalwards by Denny Landzaat.
After halftime, Arjen Robben saw penalty claims waved away after he went down under a tackle from substitute Shaun Wright-Phillips before Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could not quite reach a left-wing cross with the goal at his mercy.
But just as England looked as though they were about to hold out for a morale-boosting victory, van der Vaart rifled home from 10 yards after the visitors had made hard work of dealing with a throw-in.
England could have won it late on when Steven Gerrard burst into the area but his volley was well parried by substitute keeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
