Mancini not impressed with team performance
Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini was unimpressed by his team, despite last night's 2-1 defeat of Spartak Moscow.
"We played very well in the first half, but didn't make the most of the other chances we created to close up the game," he said after the 2-1 result.
"Tiredness set in with a lot of players who weren't quite match fit yet and so we struggled until the end."
Mancio surprised many by picking Julio Cruz and Alvaro Recoba ahead of Adriano and Hernan Crespo, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Fabio Grosso suspended, but Il Jardinero repaid this faith with a brace.
"Cruz and Recoba are coming back from long-term injuries, so that affected the way we played, as there wasn't enough movement upfront. Spartak threw on four forwards, so they put us under pressure."
Spartak haven't won in their last 20 Champions League games, but could've equalised at the death with a fine Julio Cesar save on Boyarinsev.
"I think it's understandable to struggle a little in the Champions League, although we could easily have sealed a more comfortable result in the first half," said the Coach.
"Admittedly, they had a great opportunity in the final minute, but we had a goal disallowed from Dejan Stankovic that I believe was valid. It's a shame it was annulled, as it was a great goal."
