David Beckham has stunned Real Madrid by breaking off new contract talks.
The News of the World says Becks stunned officials by stalling negotiations after being only a sub in Real's last five games.
Now Beckham, 31, wants to know if he fits into boss Fabio Capello's plans. A source said: "Nobody expected it as a deal didn't seem that complicated. But we understand his motives."
