Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate hopes to learn this week if a £7 million bid for Manchester City pair Joey Barton and Sylvain Distin has been successful.
The Evening Gazette says Southgate is currently awaiting news of his double bid for Distin and Barton. There are reports from Manchester that Distin is determined to leave but that Barton is expected to accept a new improved contract offer.
If Distin is eventually made available, Boro will face opposition from Portsmouth for his signature.
