Chelsea keeper survive death by millimetres

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech escaped death by millimetres after a collision with Reading player Stephen Hunt on Saturday, it has been revealed. Doctors have operated to remove fragments of bone from a depressed fracture on the Czech Republic star's skull. If pieces of bone had penetrated further into the player's brain he could have been killed. Cech's father has revealed that his son will be out of football for a year.

Chelsea team-mates including John Terry and Shaun Wright-Phillips visited the injured player at Oxford's Radcliffe Infirmary. Following the operation Cech was conscious and well enough to chat with his visitors.
Reading goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann insists his team-mate did not intend to hurt Cech in the collision.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been warned he could face legal action after repeating his claim that Hunt deliberately tried to injure his player. Arsenal's Jens Lehmann warned that a goalkeeper could soon end up "in a wheelchair" unless greater care is taken in English football.
