Mijatovic delighted as Real Madrid clinch Cannavaro, Emerson

Real Madrid sports director Predrag Mijatovic was knackered last night, but also delighted, after completing his first big signings in his new job.
Mijatovic clinched the double raid of Juventus pair Fabio Cannavaro and Emerson for £16 million late yesterday after days of intense negotiations.

Cannavaro, 32, will sign a three-year contract, while Emerson also gets a three-year deal, but with the option of a fourth term. Both players will earn £4 million-a-year as Real players.
"They are two strategic signings," a delighted Mijatovic said, "expert players, who play in key positions and were requested by Fabio Capello."
Real also wanted Gianluca Zambrotta, but Mijatovic pulled the plug on talks when Juve insisted that Lilian Thuram be included in the operation.
"Madrid doesn't need a player like Thuram. His age and the position he plays means he doesn't appeal to us," said Mijatovic. "They said that Barca were ready to sign both of them, but I couldn't care less."
Mijatovic went on: "Emerson is one of the best midfielders in the world and finally Real will be strong in that position. For Cannavaro, not much needs to be said.
"He will soon become one of the leaders of the team and a hero to the Bernabeu crowd."
